Western Electric 196C
Western Electric 196C, 10 10 cent manual prepay payphone or paystation. The 196 is the first model to have the standard coin return setup but no anti stuffing coin return bucket. Note the coin relay shield and the rubber boot over the induction coil. To use this telephone a user would deposit 10 cents to contact the operator who would connect the call.
