Western Electric 174C loc US2
Western Electric 174C. This payphone originally was a 2 piece unit such as a 50G (see plate that covers the transmitter mounting holes on the front). It was converted by Western Electric from 5 cents to a 10 cent phone with a handset. The phone was designated 174C a manual coin first anti sidetone model, that why the suffix is C not G. "G" would have been if it was made with a dial. At some point the dial was added while the phone was in the field. Note the phone is attached to a 139A cast iron counter mount base. The upper housing lock is a 10G and vault lock is a 12B.
